The Forum on Exquisite Cities was held in Weihai

On September 21, 2025, the Forum on Exquisite Cities was held in Weihai. UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat Maimunah Mohd Sharif delivered a video speech. The event was attended by Vice Governor Chen Ping, representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and UN-Habitat, mayors from several countries, as well as Weihai leaders Yan Jianbo and Kong Fanping.

Sharif stated that the Weihai Forum provides a vital platform for global cities to share experiences, inspire innovation, and advance the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. She encouraged Weihai to continue sharing its successful practices through UN-Habitat platforms to jointly build more resilient and sustainable cities.

Chen Ping highlighted Shandong's commitment to green, low-carbon development and accelerating urban renewal and quality improvement. He hoped participants would contribute ideas to support exquisite city construction and ensure the forum's outcomes are effectively implemented.

Yan Jianbo emphasized that Weihai consistently follows the directive to "develop towards an exquisite city," continuously deepening its urban development practices. He stated the forum aims to foster exchange among similar cities worldwide and contribute to achieving the SDGs, welcoming cooperation and shared prosperity with all sectors.

Kong Fanping outlined Weihai's focus on innovation-driven development, green and low-carbon principles, people-oriented approaches, and digital empowerment. The city is committed to building a modern, vibrant, beautiful, livable, civilized, trustworthy, safe, and smart people's city. She looked forward to deepening cooperation with cities worldwide to jointly promote sustainable urban development.
